I've been sorting through some stuff, some old photos, and one of them is a picture of my sib in our playroom, when I was about 8 years old. No idea where I was that day but what I did notice was the poster on the wall behind. It was those words. My mother actually put up a poster with those words on and still treated us the way she did. She is the queen of denial. The master of putting on a face to the world!
I had a childhood of criticism and jealousy but I've managed to turn out all right. I'm more than all right, I am just about fine! Now I just need to work a bit more on my need for approval!
Still it reminded me of a note I scribbled to myself a while back. The note I wrote to myself was after reading an article about parenting skills, how the average person hears 80% of their life times worth of praise before the age of 5.
That is something that I find incredibly sad, that as adults we don't hear the praise we so often deserve. I for one make sure that those people in my life who I adore and care for know just how much I appreciate them and their actions. Reassurance that their actions, their thoughtful gestures are noticed and appreciated and not taken for granted.

I am a product of the school of hard knocks. Did you know they have a pre-school program?
At some point, you have to find faith in yourself.
Maybe the best test of how friends feel about you is, they are still your friends. And that M, is real praise.
